The Families Afield program was established by Sportsmen’s Alliance, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the National Wild Turkey Federation, and works to reduce and remove arbitrary barriers that impede the next generation of sportsmen and women from joining our ranks. Along with the National Rifle Association and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Families Afield legislation has been passed in 35 states and 1.2 million apprentice licenses have been sold!
The hallmark of the Families Afield campaign is the apprentice (or “mentored”) hunting license. This license allows a new hunter to safely try hunting under the watchful eye of an experienced mentor before completing hunter education. Families Afield has proven to be one of the most successful hunter recruitment and retention programs available today!
